Empty Bowls Feed the Hungry
18th Annual Event to Raise Funds for Those in Need in Tampa Bay Area
For a $10 donation, each attendee will receive a modest lunch that includes bread and a bowl of soup provided by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, as well as a piece of fruit and water. Additionally, each attendee can choose from a selection of hundreds of bowls handcrafted by Hillsborough County school children.
“The $10 Empty Bowls donation is small to many, but it is a huge contribution to those who are hungry every day,” said Debbi McCarthy, Feeding America Tampa Bay’s director of development. “It’s a very special thing to see the Tampa community come together at this annual event to help those in need.”
Event emcees will be WFLA-TV NewsChannel 8's Keith Cate and Stacie Schaible. This year’s top sponsors will be MetLife, Sweetbay Supermarket and the Tampa Bay Rays. Other sponsors include Citi, GrayRobinson, Nightcat Studio, Sodexo, The DeBartolo Family Foundation, Highwoods Properties, PAR, Tampa Steel, TECO and Vykin.
Feeding America Tampa Bay hopes to raise $90,000 at this year’s luncheon to support its mission. Each year, Feeding America Tampa Bay distributes close to 28 million pounds of donated surplus food to feed the hungry throughout its 10-county service area in West Central Florida. In addition, its Kid's Cafe program provides free, wholesome after-school meals to children who might not otherwise receive evening meals. Feeding America Tampa Bay operates ten Kid’s Cafe locations that combined, feed approximately 1,000 low-income school children about 5,000 meals a week.
